Richard S. Smith, Jr., an attorney with over three decades of corporate legal experience, was appointed as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary in January 2023. As Kaman’s chief legal officer, Mr. Smith is responsible for advising the company on its legal and corporate governance matters; securities law matters; capital market transactions; mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures; and regulatory activities and initiatives around the world. Before he was appointed General Counsel, he was Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, and Secretary.
Prior to joining Kaman, Mr. Smith had a 28-year career with Murtha Cullina LLP, where he was a partner and focused his practice on general corporate matters, securities law matters, and mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
Mr. Smith was listed in Best Lawyers in America® for Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Securities/Capital Markets Law from 1999-2012, he was also listed in both the Connecticut and New England Super Lawyers from 2008-2012. Best Lawyers® named him Hartford Lawyer of the Year in 2011 for Mergers and Acquisitions Law and in 2012 for Securities/Capital Markets Law.
He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1984 and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy Studies and Economics in 1981 from Duke University.
